Microsoft Agent Text-To-Speech Technology

NELLA_WARE uses Microsoft Agent Text-To-Speech (TTS) Technology in Civil War Quotes, Notes, and Facts, Civil War Books: Robert E. Lee, and in Sherlock Holmes - A Library. These NELLA_WARE software titles can read text aloud to you. It's fun to hear your computer come alive and speak aloud in a human-sounding, but computer-generated voice!

Microsoft Agent Technology works by using animated characters who speak and read text aloud in a human-sounding voice. There are four of these characters from Microsoft. They are; Peedy (a parrot), Robby (a robot), Genie (a genie), and Merlin (a wizard). NELLA_WARE uses the character Merlin in Civil War Quotes, Notes, and Facts. LaCantoche Productions has developed a Microsoft Agent character named James. James is used in Civil War Books: Robert E. Lee and in Sherlock Holmes - A Library.

Microsoft Agent is a software technology. It needs software developers to create programs, or webmasters to design web sites, that make use of it. Microsoft Agent is a resource or utility that is installed on your computer. Software created by developers, and web pages designed by webmasters, can tap into Microsoft Agent and display the animated characters who speak aloud.

Microsoft Agent is something a computer user can enjoy while using software, or by visiting web sites, which were designed to take advantage of Microsoft Agent Technology. As such, Microsoft Agent itself does not appear on your computer as software for you to use. You can't start up Microsoft Agent on your computer yourself and run it as you would software such as a word processor, or a database application.

Microsoft Agent Technology will work when it has been installed on computers using either the Windows 95, Windows 98/98SE, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP operating systems. Some components of Microsoft Agent are automatically included as part of some versions of the Windows operating system. There is a chart displayed below summarizing which components of Microsoft Agent are included in the various versions of the Windows operating system.

Microsoft Agent cannot and should not, be uninstalled. Microsoft Agent is an extension to the Windows operating system. Microsoft Agent is safe, it adds functionality to your computer, and enhances the capabilities of your computer.

In order for Microsoft Agent to work (so that text can be read aloud to you and so that the animated characters will appear) it must be installed correctly on your computer.

After a successful installation of Civil War Quotes, Notes, and Facts, Microsoft Agent (featuring the Merlin character) will be correctly installed on your computer and ready for action.

The above Microsoft Agent Components will be installed on your computer by NELLA_WARE's software. If some components are already installed on your computer, but some components are missing, then only the missing Microsoft Components needed to successfully use NELLA_WARE's software will be installed. Microsoft Agent is safe, it will not harm your Windows operating system - it enhances you computer.
NOTES: You can check which version of Internet Explorer you have by clicking on ''Help'' on the Internet Explorer menu bar, and then select ''About Internet Explorer.'' Some computers may already have the Lernout and Hauspie® TruVoice Text-to-Speech Engine installed. To check if it is installed on your computer, please look for a subdirectory on your hard drive that is named ''Lhsp.'' The SAPI 4.0a speech runtime is needed for text-to-speech capabilities in NELLA_WARE's software. Windows XP comes with SAPI version 5, but not version 4.0a. The Microsoft Agent Technology used in NELLA_WARE's software requires SAPI version 4.0a for text-to-speech to work. Windows XP users will need to install SAPI 4.0a. Happily, SAPI 5 will exist and work on your computer along with SAPI 4.0a. Downloading and installing the SAPI 4.0a speech runtime will not harm, or prevent your Windows XP computer from using SAPI version 5.
